Welcome to the second Indie Beer Can competition with the Can Makers, in partnership with the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).

Following the success of our inaugural event in 2014 we launched the 2016 Indie Beer Can Festival with a new mission to find and showcase the best beers from independent UK and Eire brewers in a can – whether already available in a can or not.

Can your beer win it?

This was a great opportunity to try out cans as each of the 13 finalists, not already in can, won an exclusive limited production run provided by the Can Makers.

Our judges chose a shortlist based on your written entries. Then, in January a blind taste test decided which 13 beers continued to the final. In May 2016, each finalist’s beer, now canned, was viewed and tasted, and the winners were announced at our festival finale in London.

The Finals Night

All finalists were invited to join us at the Indie Beer Can Festival in London for a celebration of the nation’s best independent canned beer. At the event they, and their beers, were the stars of the show. After the beers were sampled by festival guests.

What is it about cans?

Cans are used by brewers worldwide to maintain the integrity of their beer. The drink is kept fresh, sealed from light and air and is quick to chill. Cans are known for being light, strong and easy to stack, making them perfect to carry away or transport in bulk.

Canned beers are hot stuff right now. They loved by consumers everywhere, they are trendy, convenient and their bold designs make them stand out on the shelf.

They have some serious environmental credentials too; the metal used to make cans is a permanently available material, meaning it’s uniquely 100% and infinitely recyclable with no loss of quality. This makes cans an environmentally friendly packaging choice.

The Indie Beer Can Festival, the only UK and Eire-wide search for the very best independent beer in cans is run in partnership by the Can Makers and the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA).

Every independent brewer’s beer, regardless of current pack format, is being offered the chance to be showcased in cans at the Indie Beer Can Festival final and potentially be crowned the winner.
